inVillagers assembled at the Village Hall for the latest pop-up restaurant where a seemingly endless stream of Spanish dishes appeared – tortilla, lemon chicken, butter beans in tomato sauce, tart, calamari. Some savvy diners even brought Spanish wine with them. This was followed by a yummy seasonal strawberry tart with refreshing elderflower sorbet. Yet again, it was a fantastic opportunity to meet up with friends in the village and to have a relaxing and local night out. Thanks again to Pippa and her team.

inYou lose a pub, and, if you’re really lucky, you get a pop-up restaurant instead…Not knowing quite what to expect I was delighted to find that we were going to be dining “en famille” or perhaps better “en village” at two long tables, meeting – and making- friends, and being excellently waited on by Pippa’s children. The menu was slightly exotic and in some cases intriguing! Were Moroccan chickpeas going to be decidedly different, and how do the Lebanese cook their chicken? – but the results were tasty and enjoyable. Pippa’s Pop-Up is transforming itself into the South Hinksey Supper Club and hopes to meet again, we are told, in mid-April.

Once again the night of the 31th of October, the night of witches and pumpkins, arrived in South Hinksey. Even though, out of a kind of magic, it arrived in our lovely village just a few days earlier, on Friday the 26th. And with a little help from the residents, the Village Hall became the Hall of Horrors… or, better said, a true Hall of Fun.
Blood painted messages, skeleton images and spiders decorated the walls, while not very friendly looking Jack o’ lanterns stared in shock with their flaming eyes at what was going on in the chamber. Dozens of dressed up kids and their parents, from both Hinkseys, (mostly) not scared at all, but having a great time, surrounded by food, booze and games.

inThis is not an April fool!
The South Hinksey Parish Spring Clean is almost complete. Please note the satisfying heap of rubbish next to the Mini roundabout, and the heap near Betty Lane and at the top of the Hill.
Many thanks to all the enthusiastic and energetic volunteers. On the hill: Chris LeFevre, John Blight, Troels and his son. And in the Village: Matt Wells, Chris Jankiewicz, Kate Harrison, Charlie, Christopher, Kevin, Brin and Ellis and Bella the bouncy black labrador.
Village Pickers ran out of time to do Manor Road from Cross Keys House towards the General Elliot. Nor did we do the Devil’s Backbone.
If anybody walks this way, and would like to pick up litter, we can provide grabbers. Please Phone 735288
Many thanks again,
Liz Le Fevre and Maggie Rawcliffe
